We haven't had a species-related poll in almost 10 months. For the first species poll, you guys voted that you wanted to see default feline avatars re-added and have the humans replace something else, the addition of the paint horse avatar, and the addition of the blanketed horse avatar. For the second poll, Appaloosa got the most votes (8), followed by Draft (7), Miniature (6) and then Feral Cat (3). Naturally, the only thing I've added so far is feral cat... However, that poll was awhile ago and things change, and people could select as many responses as they wanted. I want to know which avatar is most desired, and therefore, which one I should work on first. Whichever avatar is chosen will also have halter/blanket versions added, too.

We need a pony, over a miniature. I have yet to see a mini played, and I think people can use the foal. But with the pony we can use it for both ponies and yearlings.

How would a pony avatar be radically different enough from the regular horse avatar to make it worthwhile? I don't see how the current horse avatar (which, by the way, was originally created as a 'Welsh Pony' avatar) can't be used for ponies. Also, right now we have 12 boarders, of which there are zero ponies and one yearling. There are a couple of pending boarding apps for ponies, but also a pending app for a draft/appy cross and new people seem to ask about an appy avatar when they come to the dream. ("What's the appy command?" "There isn't one." etc.)
Although the Group Package gives me lots of localspecies, they aren't infinite. If I made a pony avatar we would be losing out on something else. (I need the localspecies for haltered, blanketed, and tacked versions of each avatar; I think the Mini would only get the blanketed option.) As far as Minis go, there has been a Mini coming into the dream from time to time (it's an alt of someone's; I can't remember who) and I played a mini for two years at TREC but no one was interested at that time. When we originally discussed species on this board about a year ago, several people mentioned a miniature and no one mentioned a pony. (A couple people did say they would use the mini av for yearlings, for what it's worth.)

I'm going with the Appaloosa/Dappled species. It just seems to me like it would be the most useful in the dream, seeing as quite a few characters favour spotted equines.
A very close second would be a Draft. As popular as Appaloosas are, I would just love to see FSF come out with a heavy breed avatar. I know I have a Draft character with lots of potential, who I'm thinking of making more active given the chance. :)

I've gone with Appaloosa, because I for one have really been wanting to make a Knabstrupper character.

Went with the Appy/Dappled -- versatile enough for two different types of markings to occur. Like Motley said, Knabstruppers , Sport Horse Appaloosas and of course all those great dappled colors would all get a chance to show how they look truly. Draft would be my second pick, mostly for the fact it could be use versatile as well for Friesians or Draft-types. :3 As cute as mini horses are, I just don't foresee them as something found at FSF. And, like Hindi said - a foal avatar could easily be used as well.

I locked the poll but wanted to leave this thread open for discussion.
Since Appy/dappled won, I've already started work on that avatar. It's about 15% complete. Appaloosas will replace the ursine/bear avatar. The male and female portraits will be edits of the regular mare/stallion ports, with dapples added. The unspecified portrait for that species will be a 'true' appaloosa, and will have mottled pink skin around the nose and the eyes. Haltered, blanketed, and tacked versions of that avatar will be available.
