Effective immediately, I'm changing certain things at Four Star Farms in an attempt to increase (and, to a certain extent, document) dream activity.
First, I want to address the method of staff and boarding activity checks that I've used for well over a year. Posting on the forums is a pretty good method of measuring staff activity, because it ensures that everyone is checking the forums on at least a somewhat regular basis. And of course, in order to get a stall or job, you must first sign up for the forums and post an application, which proves that you know that the forums exist and therefore have no excuse not to check them. However, the only thing I want from "regulars" more than forum-attentiveness is ROLEPLAY.
The lack of roleplay in horse dreams currently is absolutely astounding. I see a lot of complaints that "no one ever wants to roleplay". I thought about all of the characters roleplayed at FSF and said to myself, "Self, if all of these characters roleplayed at least once a month, that would be a minimum of a roleplay a day. Probably more. You should encourage that." Therefore, the new staff and boarding activity check policy is as follows: you must publicly post a log of your character roleplaying in the dream at least once a month. Failure to do so is considered either "not showing up for work" or "not paying this month's board", and you will lose your job/stall effective the first of the following month. That means you have from March 1st to March 31st to post a full log of your character roleplaying at FSF. If you fail to do so, your job or stall will be terminated on April 1st.
Some really basic rules: you can't roleplay with yourself. You can roleplay with whoever you want, but it must take place on dream property. You may edit the logs to take out OOC notes, whispers, etc. but you must not change the roleplay content. If two boarders roleplay together, it DOES count for both characters BUT each character needs to post on the board (to ensure activity). That means if Unsurpassed and I roleplay together, we BOTH have to post the same log. Even if you roleplay with me, you still need to post it, because I have the attention span of a flea and will forget that we roleplayed.
While I'm on the topic of staff, I'm still paying any staff members with GD. Too bad we don't have any right now. I have over $125 in GD to give out, I guess nobody wants it... seems pretty simple, get paid to roleplay!
Another policy: I'm currently busy working on rules and regulations for FSEA which will be the governing body for shows at FSF. My main focus right now is the 3-day eventing program, because I want to have a full season (April 1st-October 31st) and do season-end awards (port spaces, port art, roses, GD, etc.) and record-keeping and all of that good stuff. I had been trying to offer some "pre-season" practice shows, but turn-out has been iffy at best.
So here's the scoop. I'm not personally offering any more shows until after April 1st, when the 3-day eventing season starts. However: if you want to judge and hold a show, I will provide digo prizes for shows with 4+ entries and will give the judge a small reward for shows with 5+ entries. There are a lot of people capable of judging shows here. I am hearing a lot of excuse making as to why no one wants to judge. The long and the short of it is, if you want to ENTER shows, you need to all take turns JUDGING shows. My characters would like some pre-season award attempts too, you know!
I'd really like to see more activity from everyone, and hopefully have a really successful 2009 show season. I've got the prizes and the money, you guys need to give me the activity and entries!
